Going To Be A Busy Fall

School bells are almost ringing and it is time to think about school supplies. The Chamber’s Queen of the Rainbow Hannah Warren is spearheading a “Dunnellon Back to School Supply Drive” for our local students and is looking for everything our youngest and oldest students need to be successful in school.
“I know that school supplies are expensive and sometimes families have several children starting school at the same time,” explained Hanna. “This can be a financial burden on families at the beginning of a school year, but it is a true educational burden on the children if they don’t have the right tools when school begins. Each school has a list of supplies needed for their curriculum and these lists are posted at area stores,” Hannah noted. “What we would like to see is the next time you are at one of our local stores that you take the list and purchase some of the items. Each one is needed by someone and won’t go to waste.” Items for the school drive can be dropped off at the Dunnellon Chamber of Commerce office Monday 9-1 and Tuesday – Friday 9-3pm. “All supplies will be taken to the appropriate school and the school will see that they are given to children to help during their school year,” Hannah added. For more information drop by the Chamber office or call the Chamber at 489-2320.

Plans are firming up for a very exciting Jazz Up Dunnellon – Music Fest! There will be a slow transference to the name Music Fest to bring in all types of music to the festival. Heading the entertainment committee this year is none other than Dave Elliott of Withlacoochee Bluegrass Festival fame. Dave has made major achievements with the Withlacoochee Bluegrass Festival and it has grown into one of the biggest music festivals around. “I am very proud to work with the Dunnellon Chamber of Commerce on this Music Fest,” Dave stated. “Dunnellon is a great town that loves music and enjoys having a good time. We’ve got some special additions to the event, some strong headliners and fun-packed ideas to make this event something for the family as well as for the musically inclined.” This year’s event will be held on West Pennsylvania Avenue. Traditionally the event has moved back and forth from both East and West Pennsylvania to just West Pennsylvania, but this year the concentrated effort will focus on the east side. Jazz Up Dunnellon Music Fest will be held on October 22, 3pm – 9pm. This will make for a cool afternoon and evening event. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Get your business name out there on a Band sponsorship, brochure handouts, signage, commercial announcements, press releases, and banners. Sponsorship spaces are limited so call the Chamber today. We are always looking for fun volunteers who would like to get in on the fun. Call the Chamber at 489-2320 and get ready to help put on a party!

The Chamber is still looking for donations for the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall that will arrive in Dunnellon on September 29 and will be on display at Ernie Mills Park on Bostick Street through October 2. The Chamber has already received calls from bus lines regarding parking and eateries so we know there will be a big impact on our town. Traditionally the Wall has such a significant impact that restaurants have wait times, businesses have increased sales and traffic within our town brings people back to Dunnellon for the next event. The number of Veterans in our area who will come and visit this Wall will also be significant. If your business would like to offer a discount to a Veteran who is here visiting the Wall, please call or drop by the Chamber and give us the details. We are designing a brochure handout for visitors with tabs with discounts listed for local businesses. This event, and all the Chamber events, are to bring new and repeat visitors to Dunnellon. Each successful event means more business for our merchants. By working together we make it work!
