January 2026 Business of the Month
January 27, 2026The Dunnellon Chamber & Business Association is proud to recognize Habitat for Humanity of Marion County as our Nonprofit of the Month for January 2026.
First incorporated in 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Marion County has been a member of the Dunnellon Chamber since the 90s and has built numerous homes in the Dunnellon area since coming to Marion County.
According to Chief Development & Retail Officer Joanne Black, “Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is deeply committed to strengthening Dunnellon and Marion County by providing safe, affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking families. Through partnerships with volunteers, donors, local businesses, and community organizations, Habitat helps families build stability, independence, and a better future right here in our community.”
A number of fundraising efforts take place each year to help raise the necessary funding to build the homes. These include the nonprofit’s signature event, the Habitat Strawberry Festival, which is held annually the first Saturday in March at the McPherson Government Complex in Ocala. Other fundraising events include a Elvis Tribute Artist concert usually held in January, a “Bowl to Build Bowling Tournament, usually in November, and Missy King’s Hookin’ for Habitat Fishing Tournament in May.
Land, vehicle and monetary donations are also accepted, as well as donations to the Habitat ReStore. Two of these thrift stores exist in Marion County; one on Highway 200, and one on NE 27th Ave.
Volunteers and corporate sponsors are also welcomed.
In 2025, Habitat for Humanity of Marion County had a Women Build and a Realtor Build and coming up is a Veteran Build and a build by residents of On Top of the World.
“Beyond building homes, Habitat invests in people. Families partner with Habitat through financial education, sweat equity, and long-term support, creating not just houses, but lasting neighborhoods. Habitat’s work directly impacts the local economy by utilizing local contractors, suppliers, and volunteers, while also increasing community pride and stability,” said Black.
